- NFT marketplace OpenSea saw more than $3 billion in trading volume in August, nearly 10x July's trading volume of $325 million. Opensea is doing more than Etsy's monthly $1 billion volume, but less than Ebay's $7.3 billion. Link.
- MetaMask hit 10 million monthly active users in July, with Asia leading majority of the growth. MetaMask had 545k monthly active users at the same time last year. Link.
- The SEC is reportedly investigating how investors use Uniswap and how the decentralized exchange is marketed. Uniswap is Ethereum's largest DEX and did $39 billion of volume in August, generating more than $1 billion in fees through August. Link.
- Ether passed $4k for the first time since May. The previous all-time high occurred around $4,300 on May 12, before a nearly 60% sell-off. Link.
- Dom Hofmann launched Loot, a new project for game creation using NFTs. People were able to min 8,000 Loot NFTs directly from the contract, only paying gas fees. The NFTs were a unique list of items. No artwork, stats to compare quality, or game rules. The floor for a Loot "bag" shot to thousands of dollars worth of Ethereum in just a few days. People have begun creating their own universes around the list of items. Hofmann released another 1.3 million supply of Loot for free yesterday. Link.

- Soon after the launch of Loot, an ERC-20 token called adventure gold (AGLD) was airdropped to Loot holders. Each holder received 10,000 ALGD, and the price of the token skyrocketed to $7.70 and a fully diluted market cap of $375 million market cap. The token was created by Will Papper, co-founder of decentralized investing platform Syndicate. Link.
- Syndicate, a tech platform that simplifies the creation of DAOs, raised $20 million Series A led by A16z with participation from investors like Sound Ventures, Scalar Capital, Coinbase Ventures, A Capital, Alexis Ohanian, and Snoop Dogg. Link.
- UTA is now representing Larva Labs, the team behind CryptoPunks, Meebits, and Autoglyphs, for film, TV, video games, and publishing projects. Link.
- XMTP, a platform building a new communication protocol between wallets, raised a $20 million Series A led by A16z with participation from investors like Sound Ventures, Scalar Capital, and angel investors Bored Elon, Joe Lallouz, Morgan Beller, and Seb Audet. Link.
- The NFL has said that teams cannot sell sponsorships to crypto trading firms or sell NFTs directly. Link.
- Sotheby's is auctioning a collection of 101 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs and 101 Bored Ape Kennel Club NFTs. Sotheby's estimates the BAYC sale will total $12M - $18M. Sotheby's will accept ether, bitcoin, and USDC as payment options for the auction. Link.
- CZ Zhao, CEO of one of the world's largest exchanges, says its US affiliate Binance.US plans to IPO within 3 years. Link.
- A Chainalysis report shows that addresses in Western Europe and Eastern Europe received $1.5B and $1.15B of crypto from criminal activity from July 2020 to June 2021. Eastern Europe sends more crypto to darknet markets than any other region largely due to drug marketplace Hydra Market and hacker networks based in the region. Link.
- FTX.US is acquiring crypto derivatives firm LedgerX, paving the way for FTX to offer crypto futures, swaps, puts and calls to US retail traders. Link.
- Offchain Labs, the team behind Layer 2 network Arbitrum One, raised a $100 million Series B led by Lightspeed at a $1.2 billion valuation. Investors included Polychain, Ribbit, Redpoint, Pantera, and Mark Cuban. Arbitrum One mainnet launch is expected to happen shortly. Link.
- Twitter is testing adding crypto features to its Tip Jar service. Link.
- Exchange volume passed $1 trillion in August. Binance has majority market share at 70%, followed by Coinbase at 9% and FTX at 5.7%. Link.
- Bitcoin miners made $1.4 billion in August, up 45% from July but still down from all-time peak of $1.75 billion in March. Link.
- Simone Biles is releasing an NFT collection via Autograph, the NFT platform cofounded by Tom Brady. There will be 10,000 NFTs available starting at $12. Link.
