THIS WEEK IN CRYPTO

- Dictionary publisher Collins named "NFT" as the top for word for 2021. Link

- DEXs saw nearly $100 billion in volume in November, with almost 70% of that volume coming from Uniswap v3 ($47 billion) and v2 ($24 billion). Monthly DEX volumes peaked in May at $163 billion. Link

- A new survey from E&Y showed that one third of hedge fund managers, 24% of alts investors, and 13% of PE managers plan to add crypto to their portfolios over the next 1-2 years. Only 7% said they already have crypto-related assets in their portfolios. Link. Link

- India plans to introduce a bill to ban crypto in the country while also creating a framework for the creation of the official digital currency for the country. Link

- Crypto payments startup MoonPay raised $555 million at a $3.4 billion valuation from investors including Coatue, Tiger Global, Sound Ventures, NEA, Paradigm and Thrive. The company was previously bootstrapped and profitable. Link

- Adidas Originals is getting into crypto. This week it announced a partnership with Coinbase and launched POAP, proof of attendance protocol, on its Adidas Confirmed app. LinkLink. It is also developing "adiVerse" in partnership with metaverse startup The Sandbox, leading to a rally in the $SAND token. - Royal, the music marketplace started by 3lau, raised a $55 million Series A led by a16z. Royal allows artists to share ownership in their music with fans by issuing digital collectibles and NFTs. 3lau recently dropped a collection of 333 unique art pieces that also represent 50% ownership in the streaming rights of his song, Worst Case. - The Ethereum network has burned over 1 million ETH (over $4.5 billion) since the EIP-1559 upgrade. Link

- Data analytics provider DappRadar is launching a native token called radar. DappRadar provides data such as transaction activity, token volume, and active users for over 8,000 apps across 25 blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana. Link

- A mistake from OlympusDAO allowed a user to pay $50k for $1.43 million in OHM tokens (OlympusDAO's native token). Link

- Crypto lending firm Celsius Network said it had suspended an employee amid rumors its CFO Yaron Shalem was arrested in Israel on fraud charges related to past crypto projects. Link. The news came a day after Celsius announced its Series B round was increased to $750 million, up from $400 million at a $3.25 billion valuation in October. Link

- NFT marketplace Rarible has launched a direct wallet to wallet messaging feature on its platform. Currently it is only available on Rarible, but it has plans to launch the feature as a standalone app. Link

- Animoca Brands said it would cover the 265 ETH ($1.1 million) lost from a Discord server hack of its upcoming "Phantom Galaxies" game. Link

- Crypto lender BlockFi is ending free withdrawals on its platform, citing "increasing transaction costs on the Ethereum network". Link

- A rare, "Genesis land plot in the Axie Infinity game sold for a record 550 ether (roughly $2.4 million). Link

- MoonPay announced the launch of MoonPay Concierge, a new service for high network individuals to easily purchase high value NFTs. Post Malone, Jimmy Fallon, and Lil Baby have all used the service in the last few weeks to purchase Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Link

- Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr is working with Cash App to receive his $4.25 million salary for the 2021-2022 NFL season in Bitcoin. Link

- Coinbase acquired crypto wallet startup BRD. Unclear what will happen with BRD's utility token which is a part of its customer loyalty program. The token rose 500% on the announcement and its market cap rose from $14 million to $88 million. Link. $BRD

- Givenchy is auctioning off 15 NFTs on OpenSea. The NFTs were created in collaboration with graphic artist Chit. This is Givenchy's first foray into NFTs. Proceeds will go to The Ocean Cleanup. Link
